เราจะออกแบบอาคารหลังหนึ่ง มาจากแนวคิดในเชิงประชาธิปไตยได้อย่างไร โดยไม่ใช้รูปแบบสถาปัตยกรรมในเชิงสัญลักษณ์ที่ไร้สาระ

แนวทางหนึ่งคือการออกแบบโดยมีผู้คนเป็นจุดศูนย์กลางของทุกสิ่ง เราสามารถออกแบบสถาปัตยกรรมโดยมองเห็นผู้คนก่อนที่จะเห็นสถาปัตยกรรมได้หรือไม่ ทำอย่างไรให้ สถาปัตยกรรมค่อยๆ fade จางลงไป โดยมีผู้คนขึ้นมาเป็น facade แทนสถาปัตยกรรม

การออกแบบอาคารห้องสมุดสำหรับอนาคต หัวใจของความคิดต้องมาจากความประสงค์ที่จะให้คนได้รับการถ่ายทอดองค์ความรู้ไปอย่างแท้จริง ผู้คนในยุคต่อไปจะสนใจในการเรียนรู้ที่มีอยู่จริง และ ไม่สนใจการเรียนรู้เชิงสัญลักษณ์แบบที่เคยเป็นมาในอดีตอีกต่อไป

องค์ความรู้แบบเงียบ (Silent Knowledge) คือหัวใจหลักในการถ่ายทอดความรู้ในชุมชน ในเมือง จากคนรุ่นหนึ่งไปสู่คนอีกรุ่นหนึ่ง ในวิธีที่ไม่สามารถจะถ่ายทอดผ่านสื่อที่บันทึกไว้ได้ในแบบที่องค์ความรู้แบบ Articulated Knowledge ทำได้ การถ่ายทอดจึงต้องอาศัยการอยู่ด้วยกันผ่านช่วงเวลา ไม่ว่าจะเป็นในรูปของการทำกิจกรรม workshop หรือการทำ performance ใดๆ เหล่านี้ล้วนเป็นกระบวนการในการถ่ายทอดองค์ความรู้เงียบที่ไม่สามารถบันทึกเป็นตัวหนังสือใดๆได้ แต่มีคุณค่าสูงในเชิงการสร้างสรรค์และวัฒนธรรม เป็นการสร้างองค์ความรู้โดยมีผู้คนเป็นจุดศูนย์กลาง และทำให้ความหมายของห้องสมุด เปลี่ยนแปลงไปสู่อนาคตอย่างมีประสิทธิภาพประสิทธิผลสูงสุด เพราะเป็นห้องสมุดที่มีชีวิต

ในการประกวดแบบ Rachadamneon Knowledge and Cultural Avenue นี้ DBALP ออกแบบอาคารศูนย์การเรียนรู้และห้องสมุด โดยให้พื้นที่ของห้องสมุดและพื้นที่การทำกิจกรรมนั้น fold ทับซ้อนเข้าหากัน ผู้คนที่อ่านหนังสือในห้องสมุด สามารถเห็นผู้คนที่ทำกิจกรรม workshop ได้ไปพร้อมๆกันในเวลาเดียวกัน เป็นพื้นที่ของการสร้างสรรค์ในวิธีที่สร้างการทับซ้อนขององค์ความรู้แบบ Articulated Knowledge และ Silent Knowledge เข้าหากัน กลายเป็นพื้นที่การถ่ายทอดองค์ความรู้ทั้งสองด้านอย่างสมบูรณ์แบบ และทำให้การเรียนรู้กลายเป็นความตื่นเต้น สนุกสนาน ที่ต้องสัมผัสด้วยประสบการณ์ทางกายภาพ สำหรับผู้คนในยุคต่อไปเท่านั้น

ในทางสถาปัตยกรรม ตัวอาคารก็มีความนอบน้อมต่อผู้คนโดยให้ความสำคัญกับระบบทางเดินทางของคนในเมือง เพิ่มพื้นที่ว่างของเมือง (Urban Spaces) และ fold พื้นที่ว่างของเมืองนั้นทับซ้อนขึ้นไปบนอาคาร ทำให้ตัวอาคารกลายเป็นที่ว่างของเมืองที่ขยายตัวออกไป ผู้คนเดินอยู่ตามทางเดิน ขอบอาคาร จนกลายเป็น facade ของสถาปัตยกรรม และบนหลังคาชั้นบนสุดของอาคาร เราออกแบบให้หลังคากลายเป็นพื้นที่สาธารณะขนาดใหญ่ที่ผู้คนสามารถขึ้นไปใช้เพื่อกิจกรรมและสันทนาการได้ โดยมีทัศนียภาพของเกาะรัตนโกสินทร์เป็นฉากทัศน์อยู่เบื้องหลัง

ในวินาทีที่สถาปัตยกรรมถูกกลืนกินโดยผู้คน ผู้คนจะเป็นคนสร้างสถาปัตยกรรมขึ้น และสถาปนิกกลายเป็นเพียงผู้ที่อำนวยการให้เกิดการซ้อนทับนั้นเกิดขึ้น วินาทีนั้น สถาปัตยกรรมจะถูกสร้างขึ้นโดยผู้คนและไม่ใช่เพียงสถาปนิกอีกต่อไป ในความหมายเดียวกัน ประเทศที่ถูกสร้างขึ้นจากผู้คน คือความหมายของประชาธิปไตย การคิดจากล่างขึ้นบน จะเปลี่ยนแปลงทุกอย่างในสิ่งที่สถาปนิกเคยเป็น และนำไปสู่สิ่งที่สถาปัตยกรรมควรจะเป็น

ประเทศนี้ก็เช่นกัน

How could we possibly design an architecture from the idea of democracy without borrowing the semiotical languages within the symbolic domain?

One way to do this is by designing a building with people as a centre of the architecture, in all approaches. Could we design an architecture with people as an architectural ‘facade’ of the building? Could we design a building that an architecture is fading into people?

Designing a library for the future of people only tangibly exists when there is purpose to transcend the knowledge through generations, authentically. Silent Knowledge is the key of the future knowledge transcendence, in the community, in the city, through generations. This Silent Knowledge requires of ‘being together through times’ engagement. Unlike its precedented Articulated Knowledge, Silent Knowledge is transcending through workshop and performances, of which is not possible to be articulated in the digitised format. So the value is increasing. And the is people concentric knowledge transfer and will allow the library live into the future among lives.

In this completion, DBALP design the building as a library that fold into the workshop spaces that perform side by side, cohesively within the diversity. Spaces for the workshop ‘Silent Knowledge’ approach is then possible to be folded into the library ‘Articulated Knowledge’ approach. This allow the library space itself to be dynamically fun and coexists with the total body of knowledges.

From the urbanism aspect, we also fold the urban public space from the pedestrian level into the architecture itself. The architecture then become an extended domain of the city and folded with the city. People will walk from the ground and become the ‘facade’ elements of the architecture. Up to the roof they will walk and turn the roof of the building into the public urban space plaza of recreation and activities, with the historical part of the city as a unprecedented background.

Only the architecture is consumed by the people, the people will creating the architecture and not the architect. At that moment the architecture will be re-created again by people, for and among people. This is the ideology of democracy, from bottom to top, from small to large. It will change everything an architect and his architecture was, into of what they should be.

And so shall the country.
