Storing Our Future

The future will be much better if we learn how to store it well.

The most crucial culture of our technology will be depending on how good our battery is.  We find a lot of sexy ways searching for our endless energy source to give us more power.  And we also find even more sexy ways to reduce the use of our energy and cherish a more pathetic way of life in harmony with surrounded nature.  What we are missing is that there are always already a hugh gap between there two side of the coin. And it might be the most logical answer to our future of energy consumption.

We find ways to soften energy crisis at its peak load. But we has never been a consistence  consumer to the energy when it comes to electricity.  Hydro, atomic, solar or fuel: we produce a hugh amount of energy to accomplish at least 20% to its peak load in certain locations but those demand could drop over time of the day and it could be an awfully waste of production during those period of time. The productivity of all power plants to generate electricity can be adjusted to meet those variation of demand, of cause, but it has never been that dynamic.  So what we are doing with the energy to produce the electricity that has never been used? Discharge?

The crucial idea is that, instead of producing a new power plant in the remote area, we may produce a plant that store the energy instead. Let’s say, a very super hugh, efficient and eco-friendly of alternating current battery that can store all excess amount of electricity produce during the off-peak load.  The idea of battery plant can be disseminated into a critical and environmental fatigue area and supply the rural with power supply consistency and not yet necessary disturb the nature. This idea of this battery plant will also helping to store the power produced from solar and wind that definitely inconsistence in supply. Unlike hydro energy, solar and wind source of power is naturally periodical. The idea of this super battery will allow production of energy from such sources become more efficient.

We are definitely living in the world of higher power consumption and nothing we can do much about that. This idea might help to minimize that we are already wasting and tweak all our energy usage to its maximum. Also, in regarding to the concern of our ecological system, the idea of battery plant will separate the need of energy in rural area to become apart from environmental agenda. The development of the whole nation can be provided with fundamental supply and evolve together with coherence.

The Notion Of Body

The whole idea of one entity is about the body.

Birth is about the creation of body and death is about its decease. Nothing is present without the notion of its body. Any negotiation of its territory will become a turmoil to mentality and emotion: from a needle that piece into the skin, a cut of a knife into the body and sex.

The whole idea about sex is based upon the notion of body. If the purpose of sex was, originally, about the extension of one’s body territory into another or accepting another’s body into your own, then sex is all about the penetration of the body. The imagination of sexuality without the notion of body will be impossible. Thus, anything that imply the penetration of body will also lead to the idea of peak orgasm of sex.

Movies also used this idea of penetration, purposely and unintentionally, as a visual mechanic to drive the excitement to its emotional peak threshold. At its climax, the scenes may related the visual to certain kind of penetration: stab through the skin, a bullet than runs into a flesh, or a missile that fly into a whole. It might be the the only visual mechanic that can drive our emotion to the final threshold of excitement. Any failure to active such diagrammatical visual may also fail the peak of this shear pleasure.

Eating is also about the notion of body. It is all about the embracement of other body’s into ones. The food is the also another entity of body. The pleasure of consuming a nice looking or tasty food will equivalent to having sex with a nice looking guy. As eating is a form of embracing another body, it is more likely to attach more to the feminine. Or a man with more of feminine side.

There are so many sport that related it’s achievement to a certain form of penetration. That might explain a more successful of football and basket ball, that related more to a man with the idea of achievement related to the ball that goes through the gate. Every time the score is made by the trespassing of the ball through the certain threshold, the shear excitement is delivered. And it is appeared that the similar excitement may related to other form of pleasure; drinking, for example, in similar way that this type of persons will enjoy it with sex.

Men who don’t enjoy football will enjoy eating. Or it is possible that they do both. Since the eating will related to the idea of seeing women having sex with him. Women who enjoy the sport will be those type that enjoy the extension of body into others. So the theory can be applied to both side of the situation.

On the other hand, the idea of loosing part of the body outside the body will produce the opposite effect of sexuality. Vomit and excrement always a sure thing to turn you off. Losing a body is always another side of emotionally sensitiveness. Surely, death is the ultimate mechanic that related to the losing of the body that always deliver the oppositional to excitement.

More to think about the notion of body. And this is just a quick beginning.

Great ideas from Design Hotel TM Future Forum in Berlin 11.06.10

Trend Brief by Chris Sanderson & Martin Raymond/ The Future Laboratory, London

Only when things in our mind grow, you would become alive. When you print yourself in the situation you have to improvise, your brain grow unexpected. We are learning as the brain grow. The brain grow when we print ourselves into a new experience, unexpected.

Niche is mass. Culture is commercial

We are living in a Tumulus decade, Second decade of 21st century. Just like a teenager with mood swing. Self-expression is the new entertainment. 1910 is the beginning of great changes: First World War. Now we are 100 years after that great change and still changing. We are in our turbulence teen and this following decade is about change. Teen are insecure time: mood swing: world is so cruel to you and all of sudden you are in love! Everything is changing in this decade: climate change, political power change and economic change. This decade is about challenging and not compromise. Compromise is for 90′s. 2010′s is about challenges, problematic, optimistic and imaginative.

In 2011, world will enter global oil crisis: The oil crunch. This autumn of 2010 will be a nasty old autumn and the price of oil will rise. If this persist, we will arrive to the point that no one can afford the price of transportation. We already have 96 banking crisis and 176 monastery crisis since 1970. Thing abnormal become normal. So we have to learn to live with this roller coaster of economy. It will never go away.

We will live forever in debt hole. Young people lives on their credit and old ones lives on their reserved. The nation would be stabilised until the debt of the credit exceed the reserved fund. Middle class revolution is likely and there could be the intergeneration war. “We are not paying our pension for the crisis!” This will also bought us to the Fat Man theory. Middle Class population will double it’s size in this next decade.

But turbulence also means opportunity.

New kind of leadership for organisation will emerge. The leadership will be more to a collaboration and “centre of a circle”, rather than ” king of the mountain”.

Considered Consumption will be a main stream. Not everything has to be organic. For example, organic cotton required too much resource to produce and does not necessary become ecological. And China will be number one in hydrogen fuel car in this next decade.

By 2040, 75% of world population will be urbanites. We will live in large and small cities, which casting over only 3% of land on earth. We should have this Pro-Urban Mindset since it is good for the environment. The city’s Liveable Index should eventually replace it’s business index.

We should engage more to local. It could become more profitable. Think about local stories in your neighbourhood and sell it as personal as possible. Personal local food, for example.

Good city may also define by good Cafe Latte, called Latte Factor. The coffee defining factor of trustworthy (63%), authentic (32%), Ethical (24%)

Rurban ideal. The new era of farming will be an urban farming. Think about the cost we could possibly save from a high cost transportation.

The Social Cooperation is a new way to do business. The new world of business is no longer about competition but more to a cooperation. It would be the decade of Anarconomy. People will turn away from conventional consuming society as we know it. One brand will make room for other brands. Business inherit business offer creativity. Anyone nowadays can start their own manufacturing easily. Each individual could possibly have their own business. So the business trend must be inclusive, sociability, serendipity and collaborative.

Leanomics: A new economics is about efficiency – not necessary about profit.

The attention economy: Want them to look at you? You may have to look at them first. No longer that you should produce website or retail and waiting for the client. You have to look at your clients. Know them. Understand them.

Work/ Life imbalance can be a new social illness. Email apnea is getting more common. Try turning off the Internet in the office for one day and everyone will get panic.

You don’t question oxygen. You just breath.

Cognitive simplicity. Too much choices. We must have the capacity to edit our offer and ask what you can take off. Nega-chioce will be a new trend.

Emotional profit will eventually taken into business account. If you look and feel it, it will be.

Leaner is a must for new business. Shed the excess and mussel up. Otherwise, you won’t survive the decade.

Collaborative thinking and fractional working. You have to eventually dine with stranger sometimes. There will be no compete to collaboration.

Is it nice to spend time in your own city? If it is not, nobody else does.

Augmented retail. This is going to be a mainstream. Thinking about shopping in retail store and you can also check additional information of product in your phone in realtime. Shopping coupon of the shelf from you mobile phone. Also: social media retailing. the future of retail is not about the negotiation of space but the inherit of space. Think about one popular post of a blog. Your comment will go down in three minutes. Proximity marketing: thinking about you already know that there is your client in the same room. You wouldn’t miss an opportunity to sell. Such apps like Foursquare and Grinder is showing a way of those possibility at present. The ideal of retail for shopping will change to learning. Everyone can always buy online.

The highest gross sale of an Apple Store is the shop with more square metre devoted to non-saleable area. Store is where they come and paying for story. If they just want to buy, in the next decade, they can just do it on their mobile.

Completed!

Creativity is the New Economy

And that is the last thing bankers will understand.

Economists are theorist. Bankers are bureaucratic. New economy has to be revolutionised. And being very creative is the only way.

Now the years of virtual trade will soon be over. Speculations is the crucial idea of stock market and financial market that will soon destroying those market itself, if not has been destroyed already. The world is collapsing because of trade that lack fundamental structure of demand and supply. Greed has, until recently, become a formality to capitalism and failed. Fortunately, the system is too large and too complex to be sunken by the time this sin. Even the slow down already suffered it deadly. It will be a while until the system will be fully recovered from this turmoil that disrupted the economic flow. And it will be a while also for us, human, to forgot about it and begin to be overwhelmed with greed again.

Stimulus plans has been disseminated widely in a hope to quickly initiate the flow into its previous pattern. It will be such a waste since the river will soon no longer be there. The river is on the verge of transforming into several brooks. Mass market and the notion of “market” as we know it will soon be history. An effort to deliver the flow by quantity of liquidity will fail. We are witness a important phase transition of world economy system. It is the beginning of New Economy and the collapsing of the Old Economy.

The key to this resolution is controlled liquidity. although we might need a large amount of water to fill the rice field but that amount of water is demanded to be slowly regulated, not too fast and not too much. Otherwise, the rice will all drowned or we will soon run out of water. The water is required to be carefully regulated into the sub field and ensured that the amount of water is fully worth the spending, not too much and not too less. It is easy but too risk to be fast. More difficult is to be clever and slow.

But the most important issue is that we must have a rice field and the sub field that works. Even though the water is necessity but dying plants can not survive with water alone. Farmers need to replant the rice, old and new. Perhaps also they need to find alternated kind of plant that will survive in this different situation and stronger in the future draught.

Creativity establishes business systems and several business system evoke economy. There is no way to discuss about economy in such a society that lives without business. Business that derives from creative initiations usually bring diversity to the economic system. Earlier, only 10% of diversity is perhaps enough for the system. The majority 90% is mere a monotonous competition as we know a mass consumption.

But why we have to be more creative than we have ever been before.?

Because we start to get stuck. Normal monotonous business can not provide enough diversity of supply to our present day’s demand. The old economy can not roll over for the new market which consists of 4.5 billion population. Most of the famous and dead philosopher in economics lived between 1900-1960, of when the world consisted of less than 2 billion people at the time. Most of famous living philosopher in economics lived on the dead ones’ thinking. That is perhaps why we are having such a great problem.

Greater population has gradually change everything. Referring to the Thermo-Dynamic Universe, increasing of dynamic molecular population encourage the phase transition. This change the water from liquid stage into steam. World population is not only increasing its amount but also its speed. The market became so fluid with the help of technology and individuals has become extremely dynamic as it has never been before in the history. Those changes that may need days to evolve in the mid 90s’ can be accomplished in few hours in early 2000. Perhaps this phase transition is setting a new platform of substance stage to this global economics system.

One of the important aspect of the new economy plateau is diversity. One to one market is a norm. Internet allow this to be initiate easily. EBAY is a good example but only a beginning of new thing to come, once the market as we know it will be completely subside. We need products of ultimate diversity for a unimaginable diverse of client. Mass market is dissolving into hundred thousands of small niches. There will be no hope for one product that wins the entire market. The future is thousands of products for thousands of niche sections. The market itself may gradually disappear and the relation of supply to its demand will only be directly through the new medium.

Creativity originates design and design deliver such diversity the future market needs. Only when demand and supply corresponds, then, we can have business.

Banks and financial institutions normally play major role in creating liquidity in the business system. When time comes that liquidity is limited, the size of businesses is also limited as a direct consequence. As the size of businesses get smaller, the higher diversity of business is then required. Only creativity can structure this diverse small business, types and the product itself. Creative business sector will then deliver will 10 fold number of business with 5 times more potential of its diversity. If certain economy can increase creative business sector from 2% to 10%, their total economy structure would change dramatically and correspond to the this new changing global economic system. And survive this phase transition with minimum controlled liquidity.

Only then that they can get their economy across the New Economy threshold.

WYSI (not) WYG

Most of us celebrate the truth but only few of us can handle it.

What is the truth anyway? Can we define thing that we see as truth or the truth is what we believe that it is real? How can we be so convinced that what we believe that it is real is, in fact, “real”, anyway?

When some of us are facing the truth given by others, only few could accept it as reality if it does not correspond to his or her preconceive of that particular fact or reason. Take “The Matrix” as an example. What we recognised as reality, is, in fact, a projected image, made from source code into our neuron system. Sometime we put our trust in reality before it is actually exist because we had been told that particular reality is real. Sometime we believe the existence of reality because it is within our perception sensory parameters: If we can see, hear, smell, taste or touch it, then, it is real. When we can build an environment that perfectly imitates those parameters that you cannot easily define reality from virtuality? Will the reality matter anymore?

Reality is more less to me as a perception on relativity domain. You compare the new thing that you see to what you had already known before. It is similar to putting a new thing in the categorized boxes. If “a new thing” can be easily fit into the box, then it is real. Even it is not quite actually fit in that particular box but it may have a chance to fit in that box, you will try very hard to push it in the box and call it as described in the box category. If you find something that definitely cannot put in any of the boxes, then it would become a fraud, an ideal, or even a fake, anything except reality.

Everybody has different boxes of his or her own. Thus, reality should always seem different from each other standpoint. Religious and politics are the good examples. Some of the major boxes may seem pretty much similar but would definitely be different in details. Then, truth should be likely different in reality. Everybody should have his or her own kind of reality and all reality should be different.

In fact, some reality is becoming virtual and, vice versa, virtuality is becoming more real.

Globalism is not a “cool” methodology anymore. The world had already become one, no matter if you would like it or not. The present of network infrastructure of Internet has already proved it existence in the New Economy system. The network connects each individual on earth like it has never happened before. Other media is also benefit from this coherent structure and has been recently change itself dramatically.

Published media, such as Books and magazines are changing it shape and structure. Articles from all over the planet can flow with fluidity by the fast transfer via electronic mail, blogs and other form of web pages. Thus, those subjects in the media then becoming more a global domain oriented. Each media is becoming global than local. Local is learning more about global through media and vice versa.

In fact, we are learning about the world presently through the media. Few of us may travel around the globe to collect raw “truth” information but most of us are likely to stay local and learn about global via published media and Internet. We comprehend the world in the way media is seeing or would like us to see. The world may be virtually true enough for us as through these media. Things we read, architecture we see in the land 2000 kilometre from here published in the media is in fact not actually appearing in real in front of our eyes. We understand it in the way the article was written or the photograph was taken. Photographs can lie. We do not actually see the architecture in front of us, nothing but a virtual representation of the architecture, which is published in magazine. And we usually make our judgment to the architecture from what we saw in the magazine, forget that is not real. This is truly how most architects are learning from each other nowadays.

I did realize how much reality could be persuaded by this virtuality. Some can learn about architectures, analyse and criticize them from their projected image though current media from all over the world. This is how we learn about architecture today, searching from flickr and designer blogs flashing across the globe. You cannot visit the world every month and this mainly how the world is preceieved nowadays.

And movement in architecture of younger generation of architects has changed dramatically ever since.

Media also work backward in the sense: If you are learning more from others’ architecture from all over the world, they can also learn more from you through this non-linear world of media. New designer has becoming more recognised by global society than their locals. Media has also becoming some sort of exchanging node rather than an information node. They also learned from each other more than learning from the media itself. Current media is not supporting culture but already become the culture.

Architecture is becoming more and more a culture in itself. Schools and individuals are discussing their architectural thinking via their blogs. Idea and theory is become more fluid that it has ever been. With the media support, the new generation of architect try harder to get their project completed in the way the media will recognise them. It is the same old story of human social need to be recognised and the media serve them well. You can become a architectural “star”.

Gradually, the new electronic media become the new judge and jury of new architectural culture. Media is making more and more judgment of architecture from its virtual representational rather than its situation in real context. Even worse, new architects are designing their new architecture to meet this virtual criteria. It is race of virtuality against virtuality.

And nobody actually cares whether reality would matter or not. They all want to be an architectural celebrity.

Perhaps there will soon be no locality. The world is becoming “whole” and “one”. There will still be cultures, of cause, and they will be good helping maximize fringes. Fringes are good to globalisms. In fact, fringes are part of globalism, part of the total self-organisation system. Fringes help create diversity. Diversity is creating heterogeneity. Heterogeneity is biological. Biological is life. There is a value in the culture but that is no reason to separate locality from global domain. Architecture is one of several media that has a possibility to reflect those fringes but not all the fringes itself. Then, we should ask the question whether we should resist the changing of architecture or simply infer it as only the reflection of culture evolution-revolution. Several dramatic cultures have been permanently dissolved during the past 20 years, which is faster than those lost in the last hundred year. The evolution is faster by the assistance of globalism and its future mainly relies on how much we can handle this changing.

There is no definite in truth. The only thing that definite is “changes”. Changes are good and they are only things that matter. And the current media serves as an organisational structure to this evolution. Media influences architecture if not becoming architecture itself. It is not our same kind of world we use to live in. What you see is not always what you get, and vice versa.

Welcome to the new world.

Time is spherical

Now that one sounds weird, isn’t it?

Not even a scientist, I am proposing you a different theory of time.

I know this following thought might sound too complicated but it is important that I tell you about this. It is necessary as a fundamental knowledge for the rest of my thoughts. If you can go through this, it means that you shall enjoy the rest of the book easily. Otherwise you may need to change your mind about buying this book. I promise I will go rather slow and trying to keep it as simple as possible.

As we are aware of, time is more or less like a linear quality to us. We all understand the notion of time through a movement of sun across the sky, rotation of hands of a clock around its dial and a number passing by from 1 to 24. Seconds, hours, days, months and years it is all how we learn to measure time. It is always seem to be a progressive logarithm- a linear of some sort. Also the idea of Past, Present and Future even encourage the linear architecture of time even further. So how we structure the ideology of time always comes in a linear form and no one could ever possible have any doubt about that.

We used to believe, also, that the world is flat.

We even had a detail map of this flat world. Once we believe we can principally explain every natural phenomenon by this flat articulation of the world. Something that can’t be explained, then, we just forced it in. Any argument outside this articulation would be considered as a heretic. We could explain anything: sunrise, sunset, moon, stars and seasons. The earth is a centre of the universe and it is bloody flat. But there were small things that could not be explained by living with a flat world. Until there was some guy crazy enough to challenge the idea. He was even crazier to go in the boat and sailing across the globe to prove it.

We all owe it to this small unexplained nature of thing that always leads us to seek for another possibility of things we already think we understood. The world of reality is so bloody complex. Some small flaws in the logic sometimes annoy us and lead us to another discovery. I don’t bother myself into this historical research on how we did find out that the world is no longer flat. It is a long time ago and it is not my interest to go deep into it to make this book easily a little longer. I want to discuss about the time.

Déjà vu, time travel and the beginning of the universe

There have been so many strange theories trying to explain a simple situation such as déjà vu: A recognition that makes you feel you have had experienced this situation before. If time is truly a linear architecture, how can this possibly happen? Is it possible that our mind previously travel into the future that had never happened at that particular moment and come back without you remember anything about that? If the future had never happened, how could you have possibly known it before it happened?

Time travel has also been one of the most desirable dreams to humankind. Ability to travel back in time to see our love ones or to travel to see the face of the future becomes ideology in several fictions and fantasy. Several discourses and theories have been made to this notion of time travel that it already contradicts to the notion of time itself. If time itself is a linear algorithm, how could we possibly going back to something that already past or arrive to someplace that has not yet existed? When is the beginning of the whole reality and when will be the end of reality?

Now we arrive to the question of all the presence of reality itself. How everything that we so called “reality” happened? How life, tree, mountain and ocean existed? How is earth (that we do now believe it is round) created in the first place? How the universe happened?

Of cause everybody, especially a western scientist happy to believe in this illogical “Big Bang” theory. One day, out of nowhere, there was a big explosion that created everything. Stars, planets and the whole universe itself is a reason from that explosion. Several scientific experiments and mathematical calculation have been explored to prove this expanding or contracting possibility of this universe as a result from the belief of that “Big Bang”. My question is just simple: how the heck could that “Bang” happened? What existed in reality before that time of the big explosion?

We definitely could not answer the question quite clearly in our life time if we still think of the presence of things under the linear architecture of time. Universe must have a beginning only when time is valued as a past, present and future. What if there was no beginning or end, like a perfect circle on the paper? Our earth used to be flat too, remember? Our understandings of things are always limited by our own perception.

Let us have a look on one perfect ball, very spherical. If you drag your pencil on the surface of the ball, the line from the pencil appear to be a curve line on the ball’s skin. Imagine the ball is getting larger; the line will appear to be less and less a curve line and more like a straight line. So it is the possible architecture of time.

Everything happened all at once. There is no beginning or end, past or future. Everything happened at the same time like every tiny spot on the surface of the ball. But since we are so small and our perception is so limited, we can’t see the whole picture of this simple but large spherical structure. We are a soul traveler across the surface of the ball. Then, we are perceiving time as a linear articulation similar to the pencil line on the skin of the ball. We always have the possibility to draw that line in another direction to connect other spot to another spot that is not necessary become a straight line. Or it may not need to travel from point A to point B anymore. It may come from B to A or A to Z. Only if we know what is our relationship of our perception of time to the time itself. Only if we know how we can draw the line otherwise. We have no clue for that right now.

This idea allows the possible to the present of the universe seems to be explainable. Since time is spherical, everything happened all at once and there is no beginning or end. The present of things is already there, like infinite number of point on the surface of the large ball. Time is a structure to all reality. So reality also created on the spherical platform. Universe, then, also become spherical.

Now time travel seem to all make sense since every moment in time is actually happen all at once. It is our own perception that limited to this notion of time as a progressive linear structure. Our eyes and ears also very limited to response to a certain range of light and sound. If our perception is enriched by a mere sophistication method or technique, then we may have a chance to perceive time differently. We may have a chance to draw the line in any way we want. Only then that past, present or future become irrelevant.

If the architecture of time in spherical form already seemed to be complicated to you already, try to imagine the more complex architecture of reality. As a spherical platform of time becomes a principle structure to reality, the reality exists in the endless layers inside and outside that spherical structure, similar to a multiple layers of the skin to a ball. Now these are not just a “parallel universe” but infinite layers of universe under the spherical platform. Time of each layer can be different. One day on a certain layer can end up years on the other layer. There is also a chance to move from one layer to the other. And everyone is already quite understood the concept of the layer transit already. Several religions and philosophy have their own way of describing this, in so many structures and forms. But it always have a certain notion that we most likely to understand. Heaven and hell.

So it all comes to a stage conclusion of my kind of reality. Reality is a multiple layers build on one other on the spherical architecture of the ball of time. Universe has no beginning or end but everything is all happening at once. There is no Big Bang and no singular event that created everything but reality is a complex system that has always already be there with out notion of past, present and future as we normally perceive by our limited perception. Time travel is possible and heaven and hell exist in a form of parallel universe.

Now you can see I can provide the answer to most of the impossible question in the world by only changing the way I believe about “time” alone. And you can also imagine how bored I would become since I already know the answer to everything. And this is only just the beginning.
